Sarah Hollender is the Associate Director at Tzedek DC, currently serving as Acting Director. She has an extensive background in civil legal aid. Before joining Tzedek DC, she represented clients in consumer debt, eviction defense, housing repair cases, shelter fair hearings, and benefits advocacy as a staff attorney in the Brooklyn Defender Services Civil Justice Unit. She was an attorney in Tenants' Rights Unit of the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG).  Before that Sarah served as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow in NYLAG’s Storm Response Unit assisting survivors of Superstorm Sandy with FEMA appeals, FEMA recoupments, consumer debt, contractor fraud cases, landlord-tenant matters and storm recovery issues. She was a post graduate legal fellow at the Pace Community Law Practice where she assisted low and middle income clients with general civil legal issues. She interned in the immigration unit of the Legal Aid Society, worked as an intern with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, and aided in conducting paired fair housing testing as an intern at Westchester Residential Opportunities, Inc. She graduated from Pace University School of Law, and is admitted in New York, and Washington, DC. She is also a board member of DC Refers.
